If a disaster co mes, are you prepared? Are your pets? The American Veterinary Medical Association has composed a helpful preparedness booklet available online. Click here for the PDF file of the brochure or here for AVMA main disaster preparedness webpage. The American Veterinary Medical Association communicates that the most important thing to do in a natural disaster is to take your animals with you. The second most important thing is to be prepared ahead of time. A few precautionary steps that can be taken are making sure that your pet has some source of ID, having an emergency plan in tact, and maintaining copies of pet history. Just a few simple steps can keep your animals safe, even in times of disaster.

We think of our pets as family members, so when we moved to Wichita, we researched the choices of veterinarians with the same scrutiny that we searched for our family doctor. The number one recommendation was always, “Countryside”. Shortly after choosing Countryside as our clinic, we learned that one of our dogs had Leukemia and would need months of chemotherapy. Maddie was a special dog in every sense; sweet, loving, and a bit fearful of strangers. We were concerned that “strangers” would be taking care of her. We need not have worried as she soon became friends with every staff member at Countryside and actually looked forward to her chemotherapy treatment days! The doctors and staff at Countryside were wonderful. It was obvious that not only were they giving her the best medical care possible, but they loved her as one of their own and treated her with respect and dignity. The doctors never hesitated to consult with specialists or to answer my endless questions and concerns. The entire staff was professional, courteous and compassionate every step of the way. We recently lost the battle, but Maddie had months of happy, quality life after her diagnosis. In fact, she lived longer than the oncologists predicted. In the end, I can look back and know that we did everything possible; we had a great team caring for her every step of the way. I am at peace with her passing and I know I owe that to the wonderful, compassionate, people at Countryside.
We have a new puppy now, and we are confident in our decision to trust his care to Countryside.
Sincerely,
Kelly and Alexis Hopkins
Dewey (Lab), Jake (cat) and Breck (Belgian Shepherd),
and of course, dear Maddie.
